Vermiculite is super useful for your mycology antics, because it absorbs a decent amount of water. This is then available for your mycelium to spend when it’s growing mushrooms, and it also helps to hold your nutrients in the substrate. It’s the “V” in CVG, the holy trinity of the home cultivator. It’s also got little golden sparkles in which makes it the most whimsical addition to your growing kit. 

If you’re creating your own substrate at home (good on ya, we love to see it), then this is an essential additive. Might as well buy a large bag of it, eh?
