“Supplemented Hardwood Substrate”, what’s that all about? Some mushrooms, like oysters, or shiitake, like growing on wood. They’ve evolved to be able to break down the materials that other organisms find really difficult (lignin, if you're interested), so they’ve got a less competitive food source. Now, obviously they’re going to be well fed after they’ve eaten a whole bag of grain, but why not use a substrate that A) better replicates their natural environment and B) has a bit more nutrition that contaminants can’t access?

We whack some organic bran in as well because it’s got an excellent range of supplemental nutrients like protein, selenium, phosphorous, iron, and loads of others - this should make sure that you end with a decent amount of flushes and plenty of tasty-as-fuck mushrooms.

Storage:

• You’re not gonna believe this but a cool dark place would be good
• Use the grain before six weeks if possible
• Once your grain is colonised add it to the substrate and mix well
• Keep the substrate away from woodlice and beavers
